Temporary Restriced Airspace for drones - Games Venues
Airservices Australia have published an Aeronautical Information Circular (AIC) detailing the TRAs which will be in place during the 2018 Commonwealth Games. These restrictions will be imposed over a 2km radius (4km around Carrara Stadium) around all games venues from the 25th March to the 18th of April.
We have been advised that the Queensland Police will be heavily enforcing these restrictions and may forward evidence through to CASA should someone be caught flying in one of the zones. If you're unsure, please check the document linked at the bottom of this article before flying in the following months.
The venues to be included are:
Carrara Stadium
Athlete's Village
Belmont Shooting Complex
Broadbeach Bowls Club
Cairns Convention Centre
Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre
Coolangatta Beachfront
Coomera Indoor Sports Centre
Currumbin Beach
Gold Coast Aquatic Centre
Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre
Gold Coast Hockey Centre
Oxenford Studio
Queensland State Velodrome
Robina Stadium
Townsville Entertainment & Convention Centre
Other TRA's will become active due to low level helicopter operations around specific events such as the marathons, triathlons and bike races. Further details are available in the original AIC:
COMMONWEALTH GAMES VENUES & EVENTS, AIRSPACE RESTRICTIONS FOR REMOTELY PILOTED AIRCRAFT
Drone Technologies will be performing 24/7 Surveillance using RPA systems at multiple venues with the permission of the Controlling Authority; the Queensland Police Service.
